Art & Admin

I finally finished the whole VIP promotional package project last week. I made 33 of them and I’m happy with the list of people. Last time I did a special thing like this (last year during my solo show at Compound in Yucca Valley), I didn’t get the responses I hoped for. Same with my show before that (THIS LAND) at Craig Krull Gallery. However, I did get a good review out of that show.

Yesterday, I worked on lots of admin stuff. I didn’t paint. I did this morning, though. I tried to go back to the Frisbee Cake painting, but wouldn’t you know it, the green on the wallpaper hasn’t dried yet, so I smeared a bunch of it while I was painting the gun I drew on the table that my mom is leaning on.

I think I’m going to keep all the skin on this one the way it is: wood. But I’ll paint the clothing and the hair. It might be a little tricky to confine those things within the pencil lines, so I’ll likely use a bit of ink to outline it.

Right now, all my administrative stuff is focused on tying up the end of the year and what I need to start doing for the next few months, as well as projecting the numbers for 2026. It’s not completed yet. I have to take a more detailed tally of my inventory and other crap. I have it all going on a spreadsheet for now. Then, there’s my To-do list, which is not at all organized yet. I only have it broken up into stuff to do for the show, the promo packet project, and everything else about art that’s jumbled together with life tasks.

I don’t know how I got there yesterday, but I started planning out what should happen to my art after I’m long gone. The only problem with it are the funds required to steward something like that. I originally didn’t want to put that on my family (my nieces and nephews), but maybe they would want to do it? I don’t know. If not, they can burn everything that’s left. I actually wouldn’t care. I just kinda imagined it might make money, which could be put toward a foundation that supports individual artists’ grants. Oh, pipe dreams, right?

I need to get with another artist friend and practice a mock virtual studio visit. I did one last week with a different artist, and it didn’t go well. My presentation was lacking, and I really didn’t know what to say about the work. I suck at that—talking about my art and what it means. I can write about it all day long, but when I’m on the spot, I freeze up. I’m better at answering questions because I know all the answers!

I also need to make a 30-60 second video of my studio, and probably another one of me working on something in the studio. I’ll probably need Hannah, at least her camera, and I’ll need to get the hell out of my pajamas for that one.
