I finally finished this painting! I can’t believe it. It marks the first piece I have completed this year. I can’t believe that either.

It’s titled “The Tourists.” I started it about a year ago, and then it was abandoned. I had to work on the art for my last solo show, so I had to take time away from the whole series, unfortunately. Not that I minded working on the On the Mend show. I really liked how that exhibit turned out, but it took a lot out of me.
This painting is slated for my show at Craig Krull Gallery next spring, along with King Baby and possibly another three, which were completed the year before.

Now, I’m working on a new one titled “Golden Child.” I named it a while ago. The Tourists wasn’t titled until I recently finished it. Here’s a mock-up of Golden Child that I threw together in Photoshop.

After that, I’ll move on to the next, which only has a working title, “Mom and Dad.”

I sketched out a lot of this series about a year ago. I’m glad to be getting back to it. It’s about time!
I’ll also be working on some portraits, and I’d like to do these on gouache and watercolor on paper. I plan to do a self-portrait (of sorts) in oils for a group show I’m participating at Durden & Ray in at the end of October. This is one I have to think about more because it’s a “non-traditional” take on self-portraiture. I don’t want to get too literal.
But today is not a day I can work, though. I’m leaving in an hour to get an MRA, an acronym for Magnetic Resonance Angiography. It’s just an MRI, but it’s special in that it checks for brain aneurysms. I know I don’t have a brain aneurysm. It’s only to rule it out. It’s an hour’s drive away, which sucks. However, Hannah took some time off work to drive me. She is the sweetest!
I’ve been writing a new newsletter, which I haven’t done since January. I’m usually pretty good at getting those out every four months. This one is slightly late because I was so sick for so long. I also didn’t have any art-related news until recently. I still don’t have much news, but at least I have a couple of tidbits to announce: one painting finished, a couple of works in progress, and a couple of show dates.
Another show I will be in is at HeyThere Projects in Joshua Tree. I was recently invited in for their sixth-anniversary exhibit, which opens June 14th. I haven’t shown there in over two years, so I’m glad they are having me back. I had three pieces in the last exhibit and sold two of them—the biggest and the smallest.
Other than that, I have nothing else going on. I only have to get to work and work as quickly as possible for my show with Craig.

Congrats on finishing the piece! That’s always such a relief, especially when it’s a piece that took a very long time to do. It looks fantastic! I love all the little textures and patterns. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the other pieces in the series and your portrait. ☺️ Good luck with the MRA!
Thanks Steph. You know how it goes. Sometimes some art takes a long time. This was kinda too long. LOL! Also, MRA went okay. LOUD, but okay.
Love seeing this awesome new work, and hearing about your goings on. You rule
