A couple of years ago, I started a Substack account and wrote my first two publications under Studio Erroneus. Then I forgot about it.
I suppose I didn’t know what I was doing. Substack was just starting to gain popularity, and I didn’t understand how one accumulated readers. I figured, it was hard enough to get traffic to my own website; it was just another “thing” I’d have to promote. So, I gave up.
I originally wanted it to be a place where I could share my limited knowledge of building an art career, but I never found the time or energy to launch it. Since then, I’ve subscribed to a number of other people’s Substack feeds. See? I don’t even know what to call them. Are they feeds? Channels? Publications? Universes? Does anyone know?
Subscribing to a few of these, I’m learning that it’s what you want it to be. My main issue was finding the time to create new content. I already can’t find much time to write on my blog these days. I used to post pretty regularly, while I also send out a newsletter every few months. I’m late on that, by the way, because I’ve been rather ill.
Then, I thought about just doubling my blog posts. If I just post what I write on my blog on Substack, I wouldn’t have to keep writing new content. The reason I didn’t do that from the get-go was that I didn’t know how I wanted Studio Erroneus to be perceived. I’m so personal on my blog; how would I write differently on Substack, and how would I remove the personal aspect? Recently, I realized that being personal and candid is just something I can’t help but do.
It’s always been a risk to be like that–to just write my personal thoughts off the cuff. One can be harshly judged, misunderstood, or seen as narcissistic, as well as other forms of mental illness. But I’ve never hidden my mental illnesses. It’s better to bring them to light, if not just to destigmatize these disorders.
So, I think that’s what I’ll do: share my blog here from now on. I hope some people enjoy it. Stay tuned.
“it’s what you want it to be,” indeed! Isn’t everything?
Yes, you are correct, Mam. I mean, nice lady. I get these ideas from you, ya know.
LOVE!
