Perhaps I should mention again that my virtual show at Craig Krull Gallery, All’s Well in the High Desert, has been up since the 7th.

I’m showing a few new drawings on pattern pieces and some Joshua Tree paintings (a few oils and a couple of watercolors). I’ve already sold a couple of pieces. Woo Hoo!

After I made the drawings for the show, I’ve drawn a few little compositions for some watercolors. I’m getting ready to do those. The latest art supplies I ordered from Blick just arrived, but I haven’t opened the box yet. There’s Arches watercolor paper in there. 

I was busy putting the paperwork together to make an art donation to Cedars-Sinai Hospital. They have a pretty prestigious art collection there–all by donation–but you have to get curated in by their Art Advisory. They meet quarterly to make their decisions and will be meeting again at the end of February. I have no idea if they will pick any of the pieces I’m offering. They have some prominent artists there, so we’ll see.

In the meantime, I will definitely be donating three pieces to the new LAC+USC Hospital, none of which will go up until after Covid. 

I’ve been looking for three hospitals to donate work to. I have so much art here, and I much rather them go to hospital collections than museums. When the UC San Francisco Precision Cancer Center bought five of my paintings, I couldn’t have been happier. They had a budget to do that, but I was delighted to give them a good deal. There are some great artists in that collection as well.

So now, I’m looking for a children’s hospital. That would be the ultimate, I think, though I think some of my work at UCSF is on the children’s floor. I have yet to go up for a visit.

My ideas have been all over the place again. That’s okay and everything, but when this happens, I don’t know what to work on first. I have things sketched out, and I guess I’ll do what I can–depending on how I feel that day. I should just start.

I really want to play with my new, 36-color watercolor pan set I got from Hannah over the holidays. I’ve never tried working with pans before, and I wonder how I’ll take to them. It is an expensive set, so I better like them! 

It will be a good way to work with some of my new ideas, which are both abstract, landscapey, and a mixture of both. I’m most interested in the mixture of marrying them together and going off/experimenting with that. 

With this, I think about the Rock & Refuge series, and though I don’t want it to look anything like that, I want the new stuff to follow that same concept. I’m just thinking out loud here. Those pieces are based on residential architecture here in the high desert. You might now know from looking at them–which was what I wanted for the most part. I probably shouldn’t even mention it because I wanted people to just take them at face value without me putting any significance on them. So forgot I said anything. They’re just abstract creations. 

I don’t want to base the new stuff on architecture perse, but I want to keep painting the desert landscape. I’m obsessed with it, and I think I might always be, or will be for a good many years to come.
