So my doctor sent in a referral to my insurance company for me to get a consultation with a transgender surgeon last week. I’ve been checking the status every day on my insurance website–every few hours in fact.
Yesterday (Friday), at 5:00 PM, I saw that the claim had been denied. I don’t know how that can be since all the paperwork was in order.
In the case of this kind of surgery, you need two letters: one from the doctor stating why you need the surgery (among other things), and one from a mental health physician, which we submitted in full. I don’t understand what the issue is and I can’t get any information about it until Monday. In any case, I now have to send in an appeal and I really don’t think I should have to since this is something they cover.
I get to be mad about it for the entire weekend.
Meanwhile, I am combing out my dreadlocks one by one all week and have sixteen more to go. I’ve gone through two stainless steel combs and a new one is arriving today from Amazon. The rest of them are not as thick as the ones I’ve already combed out, so that’s some good news, I guess.
But, my hands and neck are killing me. I want it all to be over soon.
I’m so sorry they denied this & that you have an entire week to be pissed until you can find out why. Seems as though insurance companies want you to jump through a rash of hoops to see how serious you are before they approve something they always intended to approve, they just need you to prove your really, really serious about it. Like you were only asking for shits & giggles. It’s maddening & so many don’t have the were with all to fight & just give up & give in.
I’m going to call them now and see what the issue is. Thanks for your support Linda! I love you.
Hang in there Carol. Your life is a wild adventure…I enjoy watching your progression as a human being on this planet. Please do write your book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. When you are my age you will look back and say…well I did just what I wanted and now I have no regrets.
Thank you Rosemarie. I really appreciate that. 🙂
