Whelp, I’m leaving for my month-long artist’s residency in Joshua Tree Thursday morning, and I’ve been gathering up all my art supplies. I’m going to need to be ready by tomorrow night so I can just load up my car and go, but I’m still a little scatter-brained on what I’m bringing.
I know it’s only a month, but I wanted to have options, so I’m bringing a few painting surfaces: justĀ some of the above – maybe one linen canvas and two panels. I’m also bringing a canvas that I started a long time ago that I’d like to finish:
I’d like to turn it into something like this:
I’m also bringing lots of different paper options. That doesn’t take up any room though. I’m bringing large watercolor sheets and some handmade paper too – for fun. I’m for sure going to be working on the Thomas Bros. mapbook pages because those are going to be in my next show at El Camino College, as are some of my Rock and Refuge collage paintings, so I kind of want to make a couple of new ones.
I washed all my oil brushes like a good girl. They’ll be coming with me of course. Whether or not I’ll use them is the question.
And I put together a watercolor kit:
Plus I am bringing a plethora of sketchbooks. I think I’ll be good, because during “breaks,” I’ll be working on the book.
Yeah. Now that I am typing all this out, I see that I’m definitely bringing too much.
Oh well.
Have a great trip I’m sure you will encounter some unknown territory.
Wishing you a deep, creative and just plain fun time!
