Countdown

I don’t know why I’m up so early. I mean earlier than usual. The clocks went back this morning, so this is extra bad, and I stayed up late last night. I did this on purpose because I’m trying to train my body to stay up late and stop waking up so early so I’ll be able to deal with my show opening. Fail.

I think my body is just trained to wake up at 4:00 am, no matter when I go to bed, but I woke up at 3:00 am because we returned to Standard Time. It’s so unfair! So unfair to me, Ayin.

Anyway, the countdown to On the Mend is basically here. My main tasks are done, and installation is this coming Friday. The gallery is sending a van to help pick up my stuff, and Hannah and I will caravan behind to move thirty-eight works a mere eight and a half miles to Compound YV and unload. Then, I get about a week to put it all together, which is awesome.

At the same time, I’ll do my best to promote the show. That usually gives me anxiety because it feels like it’s never enough, and it’s just time and anticipation leading up to “the big night” with all eyes on me. Ick. Do people actually look at the art at art receptions? I hope so. I know I try to do that if it’s not too crowded. Part of me hopes for that, and part of me is frightened that no one will be there.

Speaking of which, my VIP dinner’s RSVPs aren’t all in, so that’s making me nervous, too. We didn’t get our chef until after the invitations went out, but it’s gourmet caterer, Zara Kand of Epicurean Fling, which is an amazing treat.

In wrapping everything up, I was able to put the press release on the front of my site while managing to ship out a show to Wisconsin and a crapload of work to Stellarhighway. They are taking me to the New York Outsider Art Fair this February. Exciting!

I had to make the longest list on earth just for my installation “kit.” Well, it’s not that long. It’s just forty-six things, but that’s not what’s inside my actual toolbox. That’s the stuff that doesn’t fit in the toolbox, like the impact driver, the big level, my camera and tripod, a fan, a stepladder, and that kinda shit. Gotta be prepared. I sure don’t want to drive back and forth because I forgot something I need. I’m a pretty organized person, though. I think I’ve got it under control.

It’s funny I say that—that I’m an organized person because I keep track of nearly everything and where things are located, yet I constantly can’t find stuff! Ha!

Okay, so my original plan was to basically relax the last week before the installation, and I mostly will, but there are a few odds and ends I have to tend to. I just can’t say what they are.
