Between Weekends

Well, the end of the first weekend of the open studio tours is over. It took a couple of days of rest for me to halfway recover. These things take a lot out of an introvert like me.

I didn’t get too many visitors, but the ones I got were all very nice, of course. I met some wonderful new people as well.

My first visitor, a collector of mine, came to get a copy of Outlander and also purchased a little drawing. She stayed for a while and we had a great conversation. Later, a good friend of mine from LA came and it was so lovely to see her. She is an amazing artist who is part of an artist’s group I’ve belonged to for years–a group I don’t see much of since I’ve moved. Sad. She has a sister who lives out here so she came with a couple of other family members. I wanted to spend a lot more time with her than I did, but the family wanted to see other studios. There are over 100 after all.

On Sunday, I got to chit-chat with a few of my neighbors, which was great. Other than that, it was just a handful of people. Hannah and I would sit for hours at a time between them. And pretty much everyone who came were a bit dumbfounded that the tours were taking place this year without any real heads up or advertising. I don’t like to report negative news about the organization, but I guess there were a lot of new people on board and they really had their hands full this year with so many new artists. It must have been difficult for them.

If I hadn’t checked my email before I opened Saturday morning, I would have missed my biggest sale! She’d come out here interested in my book, but then picked up the catalog to “find out” I was only going to be here on the last weekend of the event, which is not true. I quickly wrote her back to tell her I was about to open my doors. “I’m here, I’m here!” I said, “I’m here all three weekends.” Once I gave her my phone number, she called and all was fine, but it sure made me re-frustrated with the catalog situation.

My next-door neighbor (they’ve lived out here nearly 20 years) mentioned that the second weekend of this thing is usually the busiest, so I’m really hoping that is true. And I’m hoping people will use the app instead of the catalog since I’m not on the map in there either.

All in all, I can’t complain too much because I got good sales with the people who did visit. I hope to meet more beautiful people next week. So please come by if you can!
